Sesta di Sopra, located 4 km from Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the southern part of Montalcino, is a family-run estate spanning 44 hectares. Purchased in 1980, the property was originally an abandoned farmhouse, likely an ancient watchtower, which the family lovingly restored. Over time, they reclaimed olive groves and planted organic vineyards, now totaling 4 hectares, including 2.8 hectares dedicated to Sangiovese Grosso for Brunello production.

The organic vineyards, established in the early 1990s, benefit from calcareous, medium-textured soils that naturally limit vine vigor and ensure low yields of exceptional-quality grapes. The vines are trained using the spurred cordon system, with the oldest vineyard now 29 years old. Meticulous care in both the vineyard and cellar reflects a philosophy rooted in hard work, respect, and tradition, principles passed down through generations.

In the small yet efficient cellar, fermentation begins with pre-fermentative maceration at low temperatures, followed by extended maceration on the skins, balancing tradition with modern precision. Wines age in 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks and French oak barriques, highlighting the region’s unique terroir while preserving the integrity of each vintage.

The family's journey began with a dream to create something meaningful in a place they always considered magical. Their commitment to producing high-quality organic wines mirrors their respect for the land and its history, dating back to the Etruscans who first cultivated vines in the area. Today, Sesta di Sopra's wines carry forward this legacy, offering a taste of the region’s rich traditions and timeless elegance.
