Nestled in Mezzane di Sotto in the province of Verona, Il Monte Caro winery sits at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. Its vineyards flourish on soils ranging from clay with basalt rock to limestone-rich, stony terrains, benefiting from a dry, ventilated microclimate influenced by northern winds and the volcanic soil's warmth.
The winery's story began in 1986 when Enzo, a photographer, discovered this idyllic hilly terrain. Alongside his wife Carla, Enzo transformed it into a flourishing estate, planting vineyards and olive groves and constructing a rustic farmhouse. Today, the legacy continues with their children:
- Giorgio: An engineer with a passion for winemaking, a certified sommelier, and the curator of their wines.
- Emanuela: A photography enthusiast and the estate's viticulturist, responsible for the winery's visual identity.
At Il Monte Caro, the philosophy centers on creating authentic, organic wines that honor the land and its traditions. The estate spans 7 hectares, cultivating Valpolicella’s traditional grapes and a small selection of Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is managed using organic methods, avoiding synthetic chemicals, and grapes are meticulously hand-harvested to ensure quality. In the cellar, the wines are vinified with spontaneous fermentation, maintaining their natural character.
